I built this cross to bear
Money and shame, martyr to blame
If only for some fleeting gain
Windows like memories in time
Wishes and rhymes, failures of mine
Primetime and sublime, desperate crimes

My failures and fears always ready and near
Mistakes, wasted time pulling me away from here
Soul seems sedated, tired eyes showing dated
You come to release me, this prison I created.

But there’s no place left to run,
No escape remains for the fortunate son
Pursuing perfection, fearing reflection and rejection.
Self inflicted scars serve to remind
Moments of weakness, failing resigned.

Blind to the fractured path to freedom
Failures and fear, loathing and wisdom.
What’s right rarely seems clear
Longing and contempt, stinging failures and fears
She is there to lend an ear, and soon flowing tears

Innocent love gives so much to adore
Hoping for happiness and all we had before.
Praying to Him anything we can ask for.
Failures and fears, longing and tears
Pour another glass, light another cigar
